Double glazing is now the preferred method of glazing. It can be done in a range of shapes and sizes and you can incorporate specialist glass such as the Low E, Patterned or Activ glass, for example.
A double glazed unit is made up of 2 panes of glass with an aluminium spacer bar between them. This is then sealed with sealant at over 200 degrees. We then tape the edges of our units to give them a clean edge.
The spacer bar between the units comes in Silver, Brown, Gold and White. Silver and Brown are available in all sizes. Gold is available in 16mm & 20mm and White is only available in 16mm.
Spacer bars come in the following thicknesses:
6mm Glass can also be incorporated into double glazed units but this does make them very heavy.
Almost all types of glass can be made into units.
For 4mm cavity units see BG Heritage Units.
Also units can be gas filledwith Argon or Krypton.
There is no such thing as a Standard Unit. Many people ask us to make them a "standard unit". We can only make units to the sizes we are given and there is no such thing as a standard thickness. There are over 80,000 combinations of double glazed units, we need to know which one you want!
In our workshop the glass is cut in one process and the spacer bar in another, they come together when constructing the unit.If they don't match up then somethigj is wrong and it is corrected to the ordered size. We believe our procedure makes it almost impossible for units to be made wrong unless it is a processing error.
We guarantee our units for 10 years in UPVC frames and in Wood frames when glazed with foam glazing. Tape on a drained frame. On un-drained wooded frames there is a 5 year guarantee.
We can also make triple glazing which is a 3 panes of glass with a spacer bar between each. As with double glazed units we cna make these to any combination.
